Keeping Things Clean

I always thought that we weren't at risk for any type of pest infestation because we keep our home as clean as possible. As it turns out, no matter how clean your home is you're still susceptible to an infestation, especially when it comes to bugs like termites. Termites don't care how clean your home is, they only care their diet and nutrition, which they can find in just about any home. I realized that the structure of our home was incurring damage, and I knew immediately who was to blame. I called for termite control in Hagerstown MD and the team came out right away to help alleviate the infestation. It took some time, and there was some damage to our home that we had to deal with separately, but now our home is bug-free once again.

In a Perfect World

In a perfect world, I would be able to handle shoveling all of our snow on my own. However, considering we live on hundreds of acres of land, that simply isn't feasible. I was lucky to find winter snow management in Caledon ON. Every winter, they help me to plow and move the snow off of my property so that all of our land is clear and safe, and helps our landscaping come back to life more quickly when spring arrives.

Investing in Our Home

About 10 years ago we purchased and moved into a home that was over 60 years old. Initially, everything was great, but over the past few years we've found that our home requires more work than we realized. Although it has been an investment, it's also been a lot of fun making our home the very best it can be in the hopes that we'll be able to enjoy it for many years to come. One of the things we did was siding installations in Eagleville PA. Not only has it made our home more beautiful, but it's also made it more secure and less susceptible to damage.

Staying Warm This Winter

Although it hasn't been an especially cold winter, we are still happy to have the opportunity to use our fireplace. We personally have a gas fireplace, which we love and get a lot of use out of but it can be difficult to find a professional who really understands how to take care of it. Before this winter season, we got gas logs in Carolina Beach NC from a reputable company who also understands how to install and service gas fireplaces should we ever require them. Our fireplace is working well and we are happy to have logs to hold us through the winter months!

Chiller Parts

One of my friends who works in a pretty large industrial facility was recently telling me about his job. He is in charge of making sure a lot of the machinery is working well and ordering new parts when needed.

He told me that recently one of their chillers stop working, which is particularly bad because many other machines cannot function without it. It's also tough because it can be difficult to find the right chiller pieces. To make things worse, the chiller was pretty old and most places he looked didn't have parts for this model. After a while of researching, he was finally able to find someone who made the correct Trane screw parts for the model chiller they had. He said it was one of the most frustrating days at his job.

A Look at Home Inspection Tips

We don't spend much time talking about home inspections on here. However, it is a topic that many people don't know much about. Of course, this is because most people only think about home inspections when they are moving. However, we think it's important to be familiar with the home inspection process. Here are some great home inspection tips provided by Stamford CT home inspectors.
  • Making repairs is always worth it before trying to sell your home. Tackle small projects on your own and have a professional come in for the large projects.
  • While negotiating for a house you want to buy, we recommend picking out a few fixes that you feel are most important for the seller to make before.
  • It's highly unlikely that tiny repairs will be a deal breaker if you're trying to sell a home. Make sure the big projects are fixed before trying to sell the home.

5 Things that You Didn't Know About Chimney Sweeps

A chimney sweep is a professional worker who cleans ash, soot and other accumulated debris from chimneys. While most people are familiar with the job, there are some other facts about chimney sweeps that may surprise you.

Seeing a Chimney Sweep is Good Luck for Brides
There are dozens of wedding superstitions, although one of the most unusual involves chimney sweeps. In the UK, it's considered good luck for a bride to see a chimney sweep on her wedding day. As a result, many chimney cleaning service providers specifically market themselves for weddings.

Chimney Sweeping Machine was Invented in 1803
George Smart invented the world's first mechanical sweeping machine in 1803. This revolutionized the industry, allowing chimney sweeps to perform a more thorough and complete cleaning job -- and in less time. Smart's invention was rejected in both the UK and US, however. And it wasn't until 1828 when John Glass created an improved version of Smart's design.

Chimney Sweeps Work from the Bottom
Most chimney sweeps work from the bottom of the chimney rather than the top. Not only is it safer, but it also helps to control dust and soot.

Chimney Sweeps Save Lives
Chimney sweeps literally save lives. When creosote accumulates inside the chimney, it can ignite from a stray ember, setting fire to the chimney and house. Having your chimney professionally cleaned, however, prevents this from happening.

Chimney Brush is Still Used
Even after all of these years, chimney sweeps still use a standard chimney brush. Thanks to modern advancements, though, chimney sweeps also have access to vacuums, cameras and other specialized tools.

Leaking Ceiling?

A leaking ceiling is one of the most frustrating problems as a property owner. While a lot of the time, the leak is caused by a leak in the roof, that isn't always the case.

The most important thing to do when you first spot a leak or a water stain is find the source of the leak. Fixing the water stained section of the ceiling will only help so much until the leaking water strikes again.

How Much is That Leak Costing You? Plumbing Repair Makes Financial Sense

Homeowners have to deal with repair issues from time to time, and some are more urgent than others. A dripping faucet or running toilet may not make it to the top of the priority list, but calling for plumbing repair might save you money in the long run.

Let's say your shower head drips a little bit. Not much, only about 10 drips every minute. Since it's in the shower, you can pretty much ignore it. But let it go for a year, and it adds up to 500 gallons of water down the drain.

How about a sink with a pretty significant leak? If it drips once every second, that totals 3,000 gallons a year, or enough water to fill 66 bathtubs.

And what homeowner hasn't had issues with a toilet running? A toilet that runs with a moderate leak wastes 6,000 gallons a month, adding about $70 to the monthly bill. A severe leak can result in a water bill that's $200 higher each month, and can add up to thousands of dollars in a year.

As you can see, these little leaks can add up to big financial investments. In some cases, getting them fixed can actually save you money in the long run. A licensed, experienced plumber can come in, make the required repairs in short order, and you can move forward knowing you are not only saving your family money, but practicing water conservation which is so important for our environment.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact a professional for plumbing in Deerfield IL.

Six Reasons You Should Leave Chimney Sweeping to the Professionals

While the concept of sweeping out a chimney may not seem too complex, the actual job is a hassle if you're a novice without the right equipment. Here are six reasons you should let the pros handle chimney sweeping.
  • First reason: Professionals have the tools and skills to sweep chimneys thoroughly without damaging the structure. If you're going about it alone, you probably don't know beneficial tactics and tricks.
  • Second reason: Professionals know how to target trouble spots. You're probably not aware of certain areas in your chimney that require more attention.
  • Third reason: Professionals use video scanning to see your chimney clearly. You likely don't have or know how to use this technology. With video scanning, professionals identify trouble spots such as cracks, damaged pipes, and other fire hazards.
  • Fourth reason: Professionals use tools that prevent messes. If you don't use a vac, ash dust and creosote will likely end up around your home. Creosote is a dangerous substance to have lingering in your home because it's carcinogenic.
  • Fifth reason: Professionals wear gear to protect themselves from creosote exposure. You're risking your health if you don't buy a respirator and special suit, goggles, and gloves in addition to the expensive chimney-cleaning equipment.
  • Sixth reason: Professionals have equipment that fits your chimney ideally. Different types of chimneys require different cleaning equipment. Without proper-fitting equipment, you can't do the best job.

If you're due for a chimney sweeping, contact your local chimney sweep in NYC right away!
