Let's Talk About Windows

We don't spend much time on this blog about windows, but we feel they're an important topic. Replacing windows is something that almost all homeowners go through. And if you have never gone through it before, it can be hard to know what you're looking at. Here are two things to keep in mind:

Spacers
A spacer holds window panes together and can be made from a variety of materials. While spacers have traditionally been made from aluminum, it was found that aluminum is a good conductor, which means it doesn't do a good job of keeping your home a comfortable temperature. Newer spacers are not made of metal and work a lot better.

Window Panes
Panes today are typically either double pane or triple pane. In both instances, gas is filled between the panes, and this helps reduce the heat that travels through the windows. As you may have guessed, triple pane have twice as much gas and are even more efficient.

Roof Tips

Something we've noticed is a lot of homeowners don't think about their roofing as often as they should. Your roof is extremely important, and an expensive part of your home. Just like other parts of your home, it's important to perform regular inspections and maintenance of your roofing in Waukesha WI. Here are some things you can do this summer.
  • Inspect the shingles. Over time, it's likely that some shingles will crack or completely break off. Inspect your roof for any damages shingles.
  • Inspect for any animal damage in your attic. The attic can be a common place for animals to take shelter. This is even more likely if any trees provide access to your roof. Consider trimming branches that run to your home.
  • Make sure any fans are working. Your attic can be extremely hot during the summer. Make sure your attic is insulated and any exhaust fans work fine.

Construction Software

While I love home improvement and DIY projects, I admit I have never known much about construction systems or practices. That is why earlier this summer, when I was having renovations done to my house, I tried following along with the builders as much as possible.

With a number of different crews completing different projects, I was interested in how they planned and kept track of progress throughout the project. I was very impressed when I saw the program they use to keep track of workflow and communicate which each other. When you have this many different teams working on a project, it is important to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Now that I was interested, I went online in search of the best construction management software for builders. It was really cool to see some of the technology used in that industry. It has gotten so much more advanced in the last couple years.

What is Causing Low Water Pressure

It’s possible the origin of low water pressure comes from your municipality and not your home. There could be a leak somewhere in the main water line that is preventing the water from entering your home at full pressure. If you are certain there’s nothing in your home that could be the cause of low water pressure, contact your local water department to be advised of any issues with the water supply.

If low-water pressure is still present after ruling the above culprits out, contact a professional for water treatment systems in Carrboro NC.

Why Your Water Pressure Might Be Low

Leaky Pipes

There could be an undetected leak in your home and you should be thankful for the hint. Allowing the slow leak to build up over time could hit you hard in the water bill department, promote mildew and mold growth, and compromise the structural integrity of your home. Check the water meter for unusually-high consumption levels, and look for discoloration in your floors, ceilings, and walls. If you notice any of these signs or have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to plumbers in Succasunna NJ.

Make Sure Your Gutters are Perfect This Summer

While most people associate summer with with nice, warm weather, they often forget the other side of summer - the storms. Chances are it will likely storm a lot this summer. It's important to make sure all parts of your property can withstand the weather.

Few places is this more relevant than your gutters. Damaged or blocked gutters can cause a backlog of water which spills out into your yard. The issue people run into most frequently is not realizing their gutters are blocked until it is already storming. At that point, it is not safe to go up on a ladder and clean your gutters.

That is why you should take some time on a nice day to check your gutters and make sure they're clear. If you're not comfortable on a ladder, you can contact a professional to clean your gutters for you. Of course, it always helps to have professional gutter installation in Sterling VA to make sure your gutters are installed correctly and can withstand storm like rain.

Siding Installation Tips

While there are a few topics we generally stick to on this blog, we're always welcome to new suggestions and topics. We were recently asked by a reader to provide any helpful information on installing siding for a home. We talked to an expert for siding installations in Eagleville PA and they provided this info to share with you.

  • Always always always measure and use a level. Few things are worse than when you get to the end of a project and the last pieces don't fit because they aren't level.
  • Cut small - However long the side of your home is you need to cover, cut the siding to be 1/4 inch shorter. This siding will expand in the summer, and this room allows it to expand without any issues.
  • It's a job for 2. Hangings siding by yourself is difficult and an easy way for it become unaligned.

Your Local Plumbing Service Explains Low-Water Pressure Culprits

Have you noticed that it is taking a bit longer for your washing machine to fill up? Are showers taking longer because the water is more of a trickle than a spray? If so, you may have a problem with low water pressure. Low pressure can certainly put a crimp on daily chores or hygiene routines.

Pipe Buildup

Water pipes are smooth and made to allow water to pass through them, but there are a number of reasons why buildup can occur in your pipes and significantly slow down passage of water. You may live in an area where there is mineral-laden or hard water, and if so, that can create deposits inside the pipes that build up over time. A water softener is a great solution to reduce the water’s mineral content.
