What's Rotting Your Fence?

For homeowners out there that have wood fences in Advance NC, it's clear how important maintenance is. If you neglect the maintenance of your fence, you risk a variety of challenges- namely rot. Rot occurs as a result of environmental factors and is very common to wood. There are two types or rot: dry and wet.

Wet rot is a bit more common, as moist soil and rainy weather can be frequent in certain areas. Dry rot is more apparent in hot areas with little precipitation and results in wood that crumbles to the touch. A key defense against fence rot is a good stain. Staining your fences helps to lock in the perfect amount of moisture, which can decrease the likelihood of rot. Stain also adds a nice color which is important for the face value of your property.

To defend your fence against rot, talk to your contractor about stain.
